2K and Firaxis Games announced earlier today a new game under the leadership of Sid Meier, Starships. The game is supposed to arrive in early 2015 on PC, Mac and iPad, but an exact release date will be disclosed later on.

Although most of the details have been given to a well-known online publication, some info hasn't been shared until more recently. In fact, a press release issued by 2K Games offers some insight on what strategy fans should expect from Sid Meier's Starships.

First of all, Sid Meier's Starships will challenge players to build their planetary federations by exploring the galaxy, researching technologies and engaging in turn-based tactical space combat.

There will be multiple campaigns available and each new campaign will feature its own distinctive galactic strategy map of worlds with dynamically generated tactical combat missions, which are meant to enhance the game's replay value.

There's one other aspect that hasn't been detailed when the initial announcement went live earlier today and that's the fact that Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth and Starships are somehow linked.

The level of cross-connectivity between the two games has yet to be determined

Well, it looks like Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth owners who also purchase Sid Meier's Starships “will uncover cross-connectivity with the two game such that will enhance and expand the depth of both game experience.”

What exactly this means we will probably know in the coming weeks when developers will offer more details on the matter.

“After successfully launching an experience touching upon mankind’s history on Earth, fans will now see how Sid has used the Civilization: Beyond Earth universe to deliver his own unique style of strategic gaming,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

“My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration,” added Sid Meier.
