Legendary video game developer Sid Meier has talked about the way religion will impact the Civilization V experience for those who pick up the Gods & Kings expansion pack, which is set to arrive during the spring of this year, saying that it will open a whole new way to customize the player experience.

Meier, who is currently the director of creative development at the Firaxis studio, said, “Our team has a strong vision for bringing religion and espionage to Civilization V and the incomparable Civ community has expressed their enthusiasm for these features as well.

“We’re excited to deliver this robust expansion pack that will give players countless hours of new gameplay experiences and more reasons to take just one more turn.”

Sarah Anderson, who is the senior vice president in charge of marketing for publisher 2K Games, added, “Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword set a precedent in new content and game features in a Civilization expansion pack. 2K Games is continuing that tradition with Gods & Kings. The Gods & Kings expansion is the quintessential Civilization V addition, making Civilization more addictive than ever before.”

Firaxis was widely praised for the amount of content and game enhancements that were offered via the two core expansion for Civilization IV and, in many ways, the new game in the series needs a successful expansion even more.

Since the game was launched, players have complained about the abilities of the Artificial Intelligence of the competing civilizations and about the limited number of options linked to the endgame.

Gods & Kings will introduce religion to Civilization V, allowing gamers to pick and choose from a number of features and create their own belief system, which can enhance their civilization and change the way they experience the turn-based strategy title.

The expansion will also introduce new units, new wonders and buildings and the diplomacy system will be enhanced by the introduction of espionage options.
