For his many awards

Even if Civilization Revolution is being delayed for more polish, Sid Meier is still getting recognition. The man who designed such classics as Pirates! (get the original a spin sometime), Colonization, Railroad Tycoon, Gettysburg and, of course, the long running and critically acclaimed Civilization series is now getting a mention in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition book, with the official mention that he has "officially won more game awards than any other video game creator". Will Wright might be very disappointed just about now.

Sid Meier has received numerous awards, the latest being lifetime achievement given at the 2008 Game Developers Conference. In 1999, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences while in 2002, he became a member of the Hall of Fame of the Computer Museum of America. And these are only the most high profile recognitions he has received. The Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition is not listing the number of awards Sid Meier holds.

Sid Meier's upcoming project is Civilization Revolution, an effort to get the huge franchise on console, namely the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo DS. It seems that the game will take a less complex approach to the civilization building game, with a few of the mechanics of the PC game simplified for the consoles and a streamlined control scheme. 2K says that the game will be released on July 7 and that a lot of events are being planned to introduce console gamers to the game around the release date.

A Nintendo Wii version is currently suspended, as it seems that more changes are needed to make the game work on the Wii. If it proves to be a success, Sid Meier might end up picking up a few more awards to add to his collection.
