Sia and young dancer Maddie Ziegler are continuing their successful working relationship with another music video. “Big Girls Cry” is the artist’s newest single, and it comes accompanied by a video that stands out for being completely scaled down but just as memorable as her previous two.

Sia first cast Maddie in “Chandelier” and then in “Elastic Heart,” which also starred Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf. Both releases were highly controversial because some viewers perceived them as sexualizing the young dancer, a claim that Sia denied from the start.

“Elastic Heart” also landed her in hot water for having Maddie dance with a grown up man, in a routine that was perceived as “too much,” too “inappropriate.” Sia later explained that Shia was actually playing the girl’s father.

“Elastic Heart” and “Chandelier” were also very elaborate and dramatic, including choreography that did justice to little Maddie’s insane dancing skills.

“Big Girls Cry” is nothing like that: almost the entire video focuses on Maddie’s face, from above the shoulders. She does the dancing with her face and hands, but that doesn’t make the vid any less visually stunning.

This is Sia and Maddie getting raw and intimate, in a video that’s probably the singer’s most personal so far. Check it out.
