Small form factor computer solutions manufacturer Shuttle, has recently announced the introduction of the second generation of passively cooled XS35 Mini-PCs designed to be used in the living room at home, in the office, classrooms and even in libraries.

Just as its predecessor, the new generation of XS35 models is built around energy-saving components, which are meant to provide noise free operation at all times.

In order to achieve this feat, Shuttle has resorted to using the Intel Atom D252 processor, which is installed standalone, as in the XS35V2, or together with a second generation Nvidia ION graphics solution in the XS35GTV2.

This enables the system to playback full profile 1080p Full HD content, such as Blu-ray video, while also improving the graphics performance of the barebone compared to the stock Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics.

As far as the rest of the configuration is concerned, the system is designed to support up to 4GB of DDR3 system memory, can accommodate a single SATA 3Gbps 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD and also can be configured to feature a silm-line DVD burner or Blu-ray ODD.

Moving on to connectivity, both Shuttle SFF systems come with integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless (150Mbps), feature one Gigabit LAN port as well as HDMI and D-Sub video outputs, five USB 2.0 ports, and a multi-format memory card reader.

"With the new model we’re banking on the proven and further improved which had already been good", says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH.

"But basically every XS35 model is fanless and offers 5x USB, WLAN, LAN, sound, card reader and Kensington Lock," concluded the company's rep.

Shuttle’s recommended retail price for the XS35V2 barebone is EUR 146.00, while the XS35GTV2 should retail for EUR 198.00 (the two prices don't include VAT).
