Shuttle, a computer systems vendor that specializes in the Mini-PC segment, has just announced its latest Barebone PC, the X27D, that has been built to take advantage of Intel's recently released Atom 330 processor. The dual-core version of Intel's highly successful, netbook-loving Atom N270 processor, is now powering the small form factor X27D Barebone PC from Shuttle. The system is basically a successor to the company's fist Nettop Barebone system.

"The performance advantage of the two CPU cores with hyper-threading is almost imperceptible in the power consumption - a technical masterstroke", explained Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH, Tom Seiffert. "The work to be handled by the processor is intelligently shared across all the cores, enabling several applications to be used concurrently", continued Seiffert.

The system is built on Intel's 945GC and ICH7 Express chipset, and the dual-core Atom 330 processor, running at 1.6GHz, and coming with 1MB of cache and 533MHz FSB. The X27D is featured with 2GB of DDR2 RAM memory, integrated graphics with VGA and DVI-D outputs, 5.1 surround sound and gigabit LAN. Connectivity options include a total of six USB 2.0 ports (two placed in front, four at the back, and a further four pin-out USB connection is available on the motherboard), microphone and headphone sockets on the front, audio ports placed at the back of the system, and COM port and PS/2.

Being built on an Atom processor, the new Shuttle Barebone PC doesn't require high amounts of power, which is why it is featured with a 60W PSU. Overall, the system measures 250 x 185 x 70 mm, and can also provide users with space for a slimline optical drive or SATA 2.5-inch hard drive. Price-wise, the X27D is currently available for $264, excluding VAT. Users can also fully configure X27D-based systems through the company's website.
