Shuttle is known for its love of small form factor personal or professional computers, which is exactly why it is not entirely surprising to hear that the company has designed another one. This newest product, however, is not another HTPC or a PC with entry-level specs, but a machine that means to cater to the needs of multiple types of consumers, including professionals, gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. The PC goes by the name of J1 4100 and comes in three configurations, one for each target consumer segment.

All three configurations, J1 4100, J1 4100G and J1 4100P, are powered by either an Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Quad central processing unit and use the same small form factor chassis, namely the J1. Size should not be deceiving, however, as even while small, this case can still pack a Blu-ray drive or DVD writer, along with an Intel G41 motherboard, two hard disks and a discrete graphics card.

The J1 4100 and 4100G boast an HDD with 160GB of storage, an optional extra 500GB HDD, as well as up to 8GB RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and 5.1 channel audio. In addition, the former's graphics capabilities are provided by the GMA X4100 integrated graphics or a discrete graphics card (a choice from the GeForce 8400GS/9500 GT/GT 240/9800 GT). The latter uses the GeForce GT 240.

The 4100P has a larger storage capacity than its siblings, namely up to 1TB if two 500GB HDDs are used. This system also features a specialized graphics solution, namely the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800. The rest of the specifications are identical to those of the other two small form factor computers.

"We're really excited about all the new programs we're rolling out this year, like this free upgrade package we're offering," said Nicolas Villalobos, Director at Shuttle Computer Group in Los Angeles. "What's more exciting is it doesn't stop here - we're working hard to bring in new promotions and special bundle offers to consumers. I want this year to be the year for users to upgrade to Shuttle."

Already available in the US, Shuttle's J1 4100, J1 4100G and J1 4100P PCs have starting prices of $799, $889 and $999, respectively. Also, for a limited time, they will come bundled with a seven-button laser mouse, a Core 2 Quad CPU upgrade and the Red Faction: Guerrilla game.
