The Shuttle is headed for the California Science Center

It's surprising, the Shuttles have been more in the news and people have seen more of them after they were decommissioned than while they were still being shot into space.

With the US Shuttle program ended, the Shuttles themselves are being stripped of equipment and sent to museums across the country.

This makes for plenty of photo opportunities. We've seen Shuttles flown on the backs of 747s, Shuttles on aircraft carriers.

Now, one Shuttle, the Endeavour is being driven around LA. It's not exactly a sightseeing tour, but it's going to take two days to get to the museum it's headed for.

This means plenty of opportunities for crowds to gather and Facebook and Twitter to be inundated with Shuttle photos.

Endeavour is headed from the Los Angeles International Airport to the California Science Center, a 12 mile, 19 km journey. It has to trek across highways, busy intersections and narrow (for it) streets.

Power lines were taken down, leaving locals without electricity, street signs and traffic poles were removed to make room for the special cargo.
