The development team at Portalarium says that Shroud of the Avatar is not an MMO, but the game will focus heavily on a multiplayer structure. The most recent update for the game talks about the modes that players will be able to choose from.

Information is offered by Chris Spears, the tech director for the game, and options will include: Open Play Online, Friends Play Online, Single Player Online and offline.

The team states on Kickstarter that the Open Play Online mode will mostly tend towards an MMO structure.

It adds, "We are trying to distinguish ourselves from traditional MMOs only in that, unlike a normal MMO players are frequently connected directly to each other instead of all data flowing through our servers."

At the moment, Shroud of the Avatar is close to surpassing its original 1 million dollars (750,000 Euro) funding goal and the game still has about 20 days to go on Kickstarter.
