Paparazzi claim bodyguard shot at them, missing them by inches

Following countless reports and double the number of denials, supermodel Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady tied the knot at the end of February, in a very small, intimate ceremony. The couple re-did the entire thing over the weekend in Costa Rica but, this time, it was not without incidents, as a bodyguard shot at two paparazzi and nearly killed them, as the Telegraph can confirm.

The two photographers, both of whom are working for INF, were presumably hiding in the bushes and trying to snap a picture of the two stars just as they were about to get to the part where they exchanged vows. A bodyguard employed especially for the ceremony saw them and managed to get his hands on them. However, when the two paps were asked for their memory cards with the pictures, they chose to make a run for it towards a nearby SUV, the same media outlet says.

“They jumped into a waiting SUV, which one of the guards allegedly fired at. The men claim the bullet broke the rear window and bounced off the windshield. No one was hurt during the incident and it was not known if the wedding party heard the gunfire. However, press photographer Yuri Cortez has filed a complaint with police over the alleged incident.” The Telegraph adds.

Yuri Cortez, in his turn, claims that the shot fired was the closest he ever came to a near-death experience, pointing out that the bodyguard, while justified to be upset for their trespassing and invasion of privacy, overreacted when taking out the gun. “I put my foot on the accelerator and I heard the gunshot that shattered the rear window and broke the windshield. It very nearly hit me.” Cortez tells the aforementioned publication.

The INF photo agency, as expected, is saying that its two photographers “narrowly escaped death,” which could mean that it too plans to pursue this in court as far as it takes to prove that the two men had every right to be there. Comments from either Bundchen or Brady’s publicist were not available at the time the report first got out in the media, but do keep an eye on this space for more on this.
