Actors Christoph Waltz and Daniel Auteuil, members of the jury of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, had to be rushed away from a set by security after two gunshots were heard somewhere in the audience.

Video of the incident is below and, while you can’t really make out the gunshots, it’s clear from people’s faces that something has happened.

The video also shows security escorting the stars off the set, while everyone else is trying to make a run for it.

“The incident occurred just before the live television broadcast of Le Grand Journal, a nightly news and entertainment program that broadcasts from Martinez beach every day during the Cannes Film Festival,” The Hollywood Reporter says.

The man who caused all this panic was apprehended on the spot and is now in police custody.

Photos over at the Daily Mail reveal that he was carrying a gun, which turned out to be with blanks, of which he shot two, and a fake grenade.

Reports in the media claim that he shouted that he had a grenade that he was willing to use.

Admittedly, he also told a woman standing close to him that he wouldn’t linger around there for much longer if he were her.

In a statement to the same media outlet, Waltz says he feared for his life because he actually got to see the man pull out the gun but, fortunately, nothing bad happened.

“I was on a panel at the Studio Canal platform off the beach when a man produced a gun. I think it was a pistol and he fired but luckily for me they were blanks,” he says.

“Then he shouted he had a grenade and again luckily for me there was no grenade. The police have him. They tackled him to the ground. I don't know who he was or where he came from or what his problem was,” the actor adds.

After police caught the suspected shooter, the show continued.
