The developers update the application all the time

Shotcut is a new, free and open source video editor for the Linux platform, and it comes with a large number of features, some of which are Linux-only.

There are quite a few video editors on the Linux platform, but it's always room for improvement. Competition is always a good driver for development, so you can never have enough apps that do the same thing. In this case, the video editing applications on the Linux platform have been stagnating for a while now, with very few exceptions. A few of the new ones are even shareware, but they are not exactly what Linux users might look for.

As you can imagine, all kind of formats are supported by Shotcut, but that is taken care of by the implementation of FFMpeg and that included images such BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, SVG, TGA, TIFF, and image sequences. ShotCut even supports screen capture, webcam capture, and audio capture. All of these features are only available on the Linux platform, although the app is present on Windows and Mac OS X as well.

Latest Shotcut release was a major one

One of the things that set Shotcut apart from all its competition is the fact that it gets updated very often. Because the application is rather new, it still needs some work and new features.

According to the changelog, a Distort option has been added to the Size and Position filter, a video Cut option has been added to the Transition Properties, it's now possible to operate on clip under the play head, if nothing has been selected, new keyboards shortcuts have been added, the Timeline Split command no longer produces erroneous results, and numerous fixes and smaller changes have been implemented.

You can download the latest Shotcut 15.05 from the official website, but you might be able to find it in various repositories.
