A Halloween party went wrong on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles, as four people were wounded, and one is in critical condition.

Four or five shots were fired on the Tutor Campus Center on the University Park campus, last night at 11:30pm local time (06:30 GMT), Los Angeles Times writes.

“Everyone started running. I saw a guy who was shot in the leg. He was limping and screaming for his friends to help him. […] People were screaming and running away,” one witness stated.

“I got shot. Can someone give me a ride?,” one victim was heard asking his friends.

The shooting occurred in the middle of a crowd of one hundred, according to eyewitness testimony. The shooter struck during a Halloween party hosted by a group of students, and some campus police officers were at the scene when the shots were fired.

The facility where the party took place was overcrowded, which may have led to disturbances.

Early assessments point the finger at a shooter who did not attend university classes. It appears he was only targeting one individual, but managed to wound three bystanders.

The intended victim was critically injured, while collateral victims' wounds have been dubbed non-life-threatening.

Neither of the victims was an USC student, and witnesses attest to the fact that the quarrel was not related to an incident that occurred on university grounds.

Police identified one suspect in respect to last night's incident, and have recently announced they have two suspects in custody at this point.

The Tutor campus was shut down for an investigation into the matter, an alert lifted at 2:17 a.m. local time today. Campus officials let students know that "threat is over" and classes will continue as usual.
