A Kickstarter campaign by Iceland-resident Íris Ólafsdóttir has reached its goal and is on track to deliver the easiest iPhone accessory to shoot 3D pictures and video with.

The product is a stereoscopic lens that uses high-precision mirrors and a reflective sphere of sorts to capture the same image at different angles, outputting a 3D video or photo that can be experienced with anaglyph glasses or a 3D TV. It even comes with a special app.

Available for SLRs and smartphones

The device is available in two different versions, one for SLRs and one for smartphones. The SLR version is called Kúla Deeper and it’s more expensive (obviously). The smaller one is called Kúla Bebe and you can have one by pledging kr205 ($35) or more.

“We believe that when you capture your own moments in 3D you will realise the magical experience of personal 3D photography—just like we did. We want to bring this experience to you,” says Íris Ólafsdóttir.

“That's why we are making two super simple devices, one that is easily attached to your DSLR and another for your smartphone. This makes it easy as one two three for you to start taking your own 3D pictures and videos. And you will see—it is magical.”

Compatible devices, shipping, Kúlacode app

The project has been successfully founded and is now moving into its stretch goals. The estimated delivery is March 2015, and the product will ship anywhere in the world.

Kúla Bebe will come with attachments for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad mini, iPad Air, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Samsung Galaxy Note. The mounting system works with various other devices as well.

“We are developing 3 different mounting plates that are attached to the phone or your phone cover with a special removable tape. Kúla Bebe can be attached to the mounting plate in one click,” reads the Kickstarter page.

The Kúlacode app performs advanced image processing and corrects the images. It can then exporting them to different 3D formats for you to experience in any way you prefer. This includes a cool accessory called the Kúla CinemaBox which lets you slide your smartphone inside a box that has been equipped with 3D viewing glasses for an instant-on 3D experience. Kúlacode also converts stereoscopic images to a 3D TV format.
