The Creative Assembly, as the developer, and SEGA, as the publisher, have launched a new downloadable content pack for their strategy game Total War: Shogun 2, allowing those who download it to play with a whole new faction and its specific tools of war while also adding some content to the multiplayer side of the game.
The new DLC unlocks the Ikko-Ikki faction to those who want to start a new single-player campaign and have already grown bored with the existing options.
The name was used during the Kingdom at War period in Japan to refer to various clusters of fighters in the country that were almost fanatic in devotion to their faith and refused to bow down to any Daimyo.
In
Shogun 2, the Ikko-Ikki faction will be using specific upgrade trees for their generals, will be able to use a special monk agent with better abilities and will get access to units like the Warrior Nuns, focusing on the use of pole arms and able to adopt guns to augment their battle power.
They also have access to a number of faction specific versions of normal units
The DLC also bring in a new armor set and ten new unique retainers that can be used to customize a character that takes place in the Avatar Conquest game mode of the multiplayer.
Those who want to pick up the Total War: Shogun 2 DLC will need to pay 4.99 dollars for the new faction and new unique game units.
Total War: Shogun 2 is also offered through a promotion through both Steam and Direct2Drive, both digital distribution services, with players able to get 33 percent off the normal price.
Shogun 2 is the first game in quite some time in the Total War series that received near universal praise when it was released, managing to deliver both a worthy Artificial Intelligence for computer players and a number of new and interesting gameplay mechanics.
The Creative Assembly is already working on a new game in the series.
