Mihai Albu, former architect turned shoe designer, now known as Romania’s “shoe architect” for the structurally complex and beautifully intricate designs he comes out with at regular intervals, has just stunned the world of fashion once more. His latest collection features not only the most unique designs ever seen on a shoe, but also a staggering 12-inch heel, as the
Daily Mail can confirm.
Albu has long capitalized on women’s love of high heels and luxurious fabrics (which usually translates in the price of his creations), but he seems to have topped even himself in the latest collection. The items are no longer
just shoes, as they can easily be in the running for the right to be called art. The tallest item, for instance, is a platform sandal that is actually made of three soles placed one above the other. Another shoe comes with no less than three heels, two of which are purely decorative.
“They reposition the waist,” Albu says of his undying love for high heels, in the creation of which he uses a mixture of architecture, math, fashion and art, as cited by the Daily Mail. “I am creating a constructed chaos,” he explains. In doing so, he goes beyond the 6-inch heel that’s being commonly used by designers, be they haute couture or not. “I keep an eye on major shoe designers, so I know what not to make,” he jokes, fully aware that his creations, as eccentric as they may be, still follow the hottest trends.
“The passion for object design and study was expressed from the first years of college when the young designer started his journey in the structured and rigorous shapes of architectural art. Ever since, each collection bearing the designer’s signature has been a continuous display of sensual shapes, rigorously sculpted in clean lines and sophisticated structures that over time created a unique, unmistakable style,” a description of Mihai Albu’s work on his official
webpage reads.
Clearly, his most recent collection is no exception, taking the Mihai Albu legacy further, right into the realm of art. They may sell for upwards of £1,200, but Albu’s latest creations are certainly worth every penny. For more on the collection, please refer
