Just hours after giving a clean performance at the MTV European Music Awards in Germany, a shocking footage has emerged depicting the Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty back at his home in Wiltshire injecting himself with cocaine. The video in question is shot on a mobile phone and lasts 1min 14secs (you can
watch it HERE but
be warned - it's extremely disturbing and therefore NSFW). It shows Doherty crouched on the floor, still wearing the green wristband from the previous night's awards ceremony, holding a needle in his mouth, "cooking up" the heroin on a spoon, filling a syringe and injecting himself.
The story was broken by British newspaper The Sun, who demands that the controversial and troubled Doherty be sent to jail.
The fact is, Doherty's drug habit is no secret to anyone - in fact, he used to be one of the biggest junkies out there. However, the singer had recently completed a six week rehab stint and had been released from a drug treatment on October 24th after testing negative for crack cocaine and heroin. Two days after his release, he was also let off jail at West London Magistrates' Court, after admitting crack and heroin charges. He was only given a four-month suspended sentence and a 12-month drug rehab order.
Ironically, Doherty stated a short while ago "I've had enough. It's just the beginning. My life has changed". Many people feel that Doherty was cut a huge amount of slack by authorities and that now it's been proven he's back on the hard drugs, he should most definitely be locked up for a nice long period of time.
"It's not the first time he's injected since he was supposed to have gone clean", says a source close to him. "He may have got clean through rehab, but as soon as the temptation is put in front of him, he cannot help himself. It's so sad to see. He's been given so many chances and so many fresh starts and he just throws them all away. It's not fair on those who have tried to help. It makes a mockery of the legal system. Anyone else would have been sent to jail by now". Couldn't agree more - so, prepare for some serious Doherty actions in the days to come. We will of course keep you up to speed - so stay tuned.
