They say some things don’t get easily conveyed into writing, but I’m pretty sure at least some readers picked up the sarcasm in this headline.

Apple this year may have eased off on its retail staffers’ work hours, but not on the customers’ wallets.

In case you’re still rubbing your eyes hoping to have misread the opening, here’s the situation with Apple’s big sales event (another pint of sarcasm there too).

The gist of it is that you buy any product at full price and they give you a cool iTunes Gift card which you can spend at your leisure.

The deals are already live in Australia, where you can buy an iPad and get an Apple Store Gift Card worth up to AU $75 ($75 in the US or €75 in the EU). For Macs, the reward is a card worth AU $150 ($150 in the US and €150 the in EU). Apple also gives you a gift card if you shop iPods and accessories.
