Season finale of “My Strange Addiction” shows woman eating dead husband’s ashes

Now at its second season, “My Strange Addiction” on TLC is staying true to form, presenting cases with people with the strangest addictions ever. The season finale takes the cake, though, showing a woman who eats her dead husband’s ashes.

Granted, women who eat ashes have been featured on the show, but never before those of a person, only cigarette butts and ashes.

26-year-old Casie was a widow of 2 months at the time the episode in question was shot, a preview of which you can see in the video below.

Shawn passed away following an asthma attack and left Casie inconsolable and heartbroken. When transferring his remains from a regular box into a special urn, Casie dipped her finger in them and put it in her mouth.

Since then, she’s been mourning her husband in her very own special way, by literally eating him.

“Some of it spilled out on my hands. I didn’t want to just wipe him away, so I just licked it off my fingers. And here I am today, almost two months later and I can’t stop,” Casie tells the TLC crew on the show.

She says Shawn was “all [she] ever wanted in a man” and that she’s now inseparable from the urn, which she makes sure she carries everywhere she goes, to the cinema, to the restaurant, out shopping.

“I take my husband everywhere. To the grocery store, out shopping... When I go grocery shopping, I buy the things that he likes,” she says, admitting that her chores around the house are also molded on Shawn’s tastes.

“When I cook, I cook what he likes. I don’t eat it, but I cook it for him,” she explains.

The episode also sees the woman enroll in a special clinic to seek treatment for her addiction. Casie insists she knows what she’s doing is not right and she doesn’t blame those who look upon her with scorn and disgust.

“Some people laugh, they think I’m playing. But I’m serious – I mean, that’s my husband,” she says.
