For weeks now we've been hearing nothing but rumors and speculations about Nicole Richie being pregnant. At first, the entire world went like 'What? She can't have a baby! She can barely take care of herself!' but, in time, as the dust began to settle and the 'Simple Life' star was still not making any kind of statement, we all believed that the whole thing had been nothing but idle talk. And this just goes to show that there's never smoke without a fire because Nicole Richie just confirmed what we all knew deep in our hearts: she is expecting her first child!

For all those who are not into this entertainment/gossip thing, let me just summarize Nicole's life for you so you too can see what the big deal is all about. Nicole is crooner Lionel Richie's adoptive daughter and, ever since she was very young, she traveled only in select circles. That, if you call Paris Hilton's entourage 'select'. However, Nicole's day job involves being a 'socialite' (aside from that of being a reality star, a career that, unfortunately came to a premature end since her only series got axed) - a term that remains a mystery for many but that seems to involve a lot of partying, clubbing, whoring out in front of the cameras with Paris (is that too strong a word - whoring, not Paris?), doing drugs and driving up the wrong lane.

I know, anyone could easily be one of these socialites but, you see, it's not quite as it seems: socializing (supposing that's what the 'socialite' term stands for) also has negative effects on one's body, that may lead to drug and/or alcohol addiction, anorexia and God knows what else. So, this is Nicole's life. For a while now (ever since her second DUI bust of a couple of months ago), the petite star has tried to keep a more low profile - thus, there wasn't even half as much clubbing and drinking as before. She also found herself a good man, Joel Madden from the Good Charlotte and apparently got impregnated in the meantime.

The rumor that she was with child came like any other rumor surrounding celebrities - from an unnamed source, a friend of Nicole's. And now it just became official: Nicole and her future baby-daddy agreed to give a joint interview to Diane Sawyer from 'Good Morning America' and she finally let the world in on her big secret. When Diane asked her about all the pregnancy rumors, Nicole simply said: 'Yes, I am. We are. I'm four months'. Oh, jaw-dropper! Not.

But that's not the most shocking thing, Nicole being with child, I mean. This past Friday, she was sentenced to four days in jail for driving under the influence for the second time in a row, a sentence she will have to complete until September. This means that momma is going to be a pregnant momma in jail! However, the thought doesn't seem that terrifying to Nicole, who says that what she did was wrong and she must pay the price for her stupid, stupid actions. Well, not using those words exactly, but close. 'I have a responsibility and it's something that I did wrong, and if I could personally apologize to every single person that has lost a loved one from drunk driving I would. And unfortunately I can't, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult', she explains.

So, Nicole is going to have a baby. Wonder if Paris is next... Now, THAT would be a shocker!
