They probably won't get any better in September either, alas

Another week, another update on the status of the notebook industry, and once again we are left underwhelmed.

It's not enough that shipments were slow during the month of July (20% down on year among top five vendors). Now we find out that they didn't get any better throughout this month either, August 2013.

Notebook vendors have been adjusting their reserves, and holding off on new orders. Possibly due to IFA 2013, which will take place next week in Berlin, Germany.

Normally, this would mean a certain rise in demand come September, but we cannot overlook that fact that some tablets will come out then too.

So, with notebooks once again fighting with tablets over prospective buyers, chances are shipments still won't recover.
