Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil franchise and the current leader of development working on The Evil Within, believes that, at the moment, the world lacks any real survival horror titles.

He tells IGN in a video feature that, “For me, personally, why I came back to survival horror is that survival horror as a genre is becoming all action now.”

He adds, “That is the biggest motivation for me.”

The Evil Within was revealed via a trailer on Friday and got a fuller feature list yesterday.

The experience, which will be published by Bethesda, is designed to use the best elements of classic survival horror while also borrowing heavily from the best movie in the same genre.

The Evil Within will be launched in 2014 for current consoles and the PC.
