Shinji Mikami, the leader of the Tango Gameworks team, says that his original concept for the upcoming The Evil Within was called Zwei and focused on two players who were connected by a chain and needed to work together to survive.

The game maker says he abandoned the idea because he wanted to focus on just one main character and deploy a wider array of mechanics taken from the survival horror genre.

Mikami also reveals to Polygon that he might direct more titles for Bethesda in the coming years, but he is also focused on making sure that he gets other members of his team into important positions.

The Evil Within is set to be launched on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, current gen consoles and the PC on August 26 in the United States, and three days later in Europe.

The game aims to revive the survival horror genre and creates some genuinely terrifying moments for gamers to experience.

The demos that Tango and Bethesda have shown so far focus on the mystery of the location that the player has to visit and the supernatural elements of the threat that he has to face.

Mikami has promised that he will take into account the feedback coming from players who have seen demos of The Evil Within.
