Shinji Mikami, the leader of the team working on The Evil Within, says that his new title is not aiming to capture the attention of the gamers who are actively enjoying playing Call of Duty or other similar shooter series.

The game maker tells The Official Xbox Magazine that he is more interested in the player who understands the nuances of the classic horror movies.

He states, “It’s one of the attractive things in the game – you don’t really understand whether it’s real or not. It’s like that movie, The Ring, with the surface and the black side. You don’t know if you’re in the real world or not. I wouldn’t want to say.”

The Evil Within takes gamers to an asylum where events quickly escalate, with the main character forced to crawl around, sneak and battle a variety of twisted creatures.

The game will be out on the PC, the PlayStation 4, the PS3, the Xbox One and 360 in 2014.
