Looking back at Apple's report for the previous quarter, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the MacBook and
MacBook Pro laptops are a real hit for Apple, and sales will go up in the near future, especially considering the impact that Windows Vista had and will have on a lot of people, making them run away from the Windows operating systems or even from the PC architecture, but that's another story. Now, I want to tell you about the next generation of laptops from Apple, since I got some news on this topic...

According to AppleInsider's Kasper Jade, the MacBook Pro line will get a new generation featuring "more vibrant and uniformly-colored notebook displays thanks to some new underlying backlight technology". The most interesting part of this is that we're not talking about breaking news on this subject, since an earlier report from the Taiwanese DigiTimes stated that the new professional notebooks from Apple will start a transitional phase from cold cathode fluorescent backlights (CCFLs) towards LED backlights.

The anonymous sources used by DigiTimes to get its information also stated that Apple has agreed to implement the new LED technology only to a revision of its 15 inch MacBook Pro, and this should happen in the second quarter of this year, while the expansion of the LED panels to 17 inch models and 13 inch consumer line of notebooks remained under consideration at this time.

Although the timeline of this process is not clear yet, the game is on and you can be sure that in a maximum of two years - as I see it - all Apple notebooks will use the LED panels. This is not just a marketing trick, like the first 52X CD-ROM drives, but a natural evolution, since the new technology leads to lower power consumption and LED displays are able to maintain their initial level of brightness longer than the displays used at this time.

What else should I say? I can hardly wait to see the new technology moving from "I heard about" to "I have seen", and I am sure that the future looks much brighter now!
