Earlier this year, a change became apparent in what regards Shiloh Nouvelle Jolie-Pitt’s look: almost overnight, she went from cutie patootie to tomboy. This, in turn, prompted the US tabs to cry shame and accuse Angelina Jolie of deliberately trying to transform the girl into a tougher, rougher and manlier version of herself. Speaking with the August 2010 issue of Vanity Fair, Angelina finally addresses the controversy.

Of course, the actress doesn’t say outright that she’s been reading the glossies or that she’s been up to date with the ongoing rumors about her first child (by natural birth) with life partner Brad Pitt. However, she does talk in the lengthy interview about all her six children, detailing what she’d like to see them become when they grow up. As expected, the topic of Shiloh’s boys clothes does come up, which is when Jolie makes the surprising revelation that it’s actually Shiloh’s choice to dress like that because she fancies herself one of the boys.

“She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers. Shiloh, we feel, has Montenegro style. She dresses like a little dude. It’s how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll ever meet. Goofy and verbal, the early signs of a performer. I used to get dressed up in costumes and jump around,” the actress explains.

In the same interview, Angelina also talks about the other children, which literally makes this the first time she’s so open about such personal matters. “Mad’s a real intellectual, which I can take no credit for genetically. He’s great at school, great at history. He feels like he could be a writer or travel the world and learn about places and things. Zahara’s got an extraordinary voice and is just so elegant and well spoken. Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll meet. Knox and Viv are classic boy and girl. She’s really female. And he’s really a little dude,” she explains.

As for having more children, that remains to be seen, Angelina further says. So far, she and Brad have their hands full with their six children, so they don’t want to have more (either by natural birth or adoption) and not have the time to raise them as they’d like to. Marriage is off the table as well because, for both Jolie and Pitt, it’s a pure formality: children represent the biggest commitment there is, so what would be the purpose of getting married since they already took that giant commitment leap a while back.
