One of the big reveals coming at the E3 trade show towards the middle of next month will be the
new Legend of Zelda videogame which is being developed for the Nintendo Wii by long time creative producer Shigeru Miyamoto. And while details might be limited on the ground, the developer was ready to talk a bit about the way the project has been approached by his team.
Miyamoto told Gaming Media that the tradition was to create a demo movie for all new titles and to then task members with expanding on the concepts which were shown in it. For the new Legend of Zelda, the team actually took the other way, first thinking about the game mechanics which define the series and which need to be included, and only then putting together the tech demo which shows how they can be used with one another.
Miyamoto also says that Nintendo is interested in “creating a new way to play the game” before adding that, “We are trying to make Zelda, which has become very complicated, easier to play.” The Nintendo Wii has the motion control system and that could allow the team working on the
new Zelda to change the very familiar mechanics a bit, in order to give old time fans a few surprises when they fire it up.
In the same interview, Miyamoto talked about how Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is set to launch in June, was a necessity for Nintendo because of the wealth of ideas which were left over after the first game in the space based series was launched. He also mentioned the Vitality Sensor, which is expected to make a big impact at the press conference Nintendo will have at E3, saying, “It's a truly unique device so I think we can do some new things.”
