...with three different flavors

Barney Tormey has announced the release of Shift Linux 0.6.2 a few days ago. This new release comes in three flavors: Shift Linux 0.6.2 Gnome, Shift Linux 0.6.2 KDE4 and Shift Linux 0.6.2 Lite - specially designed for older computers.

Shift Linux Lite will bring two less resource-hungry desktop managers - XFCE 4 and Fluxbox - but will have a full set of packages and utilities.

Ubuntu is now at the base of Shift Linux, which was previously based on Morphix. For web browsing, you will have Firefox GranParadiso, OpenOffice for your office tasks and a new tested installer. This version will also bring new themes, so you will have a lot of eye candy. Just as many other distributions out there, Shift Linux 0.6.2 uses KDE4. This is a transition version as the developers move away from Morphix and port everything to Ubuntu.

About Shift Linux

Shift Linux is a project that was created by the Neowin community. At first based on Morphix Linux - now based on Ubuntu - Shift has access to all of the software and applications as other Debian distributions. It is used for educating interested developers, graphic designers and web users about how to create a usable and functional Linux distribution. It created a revolutionary set of web services, like a "customization center" and a state-of-the-art main page, which make Shift better for users and developers at the same time.

Shift Linux is designed to give the user an experience of being part of the Neowin community, as well as having a simple and easy-to-use Live CD that can be installed to your hard drive, if you enjoy the way our distribution works. Shift is a free GPL-based Linux distribution that can be freely distributed or modified.
