Both director Michael Bay and leading man Shia LaBeouf know – and have owned up to it – that the first 2 “Transformers” films, though a hit at the box office, were not what fans expected.

This is why they long promised that the third and final installment would be the best of the series – also in groundbreaking 3D, Bay said a while back.

Speaking with MTV News just recently, LaBeouf promised fans once more that they will not leave theaters feeling dizzy or, even worse, disappointed.

“Transformers 3” has been shooting scenes on location for a few weeks now and, though he hasn’t seen much of the final version of the footage shot, Shia can promise the film will not disappoint.

Not only does it have a very good script, but the focus is on the story and not the action, where it should have been starting with the first pic.

“This is, and I’m not just BS-ing you, it’s the best movie we’ve made of the three by far,” the actor promises. So far, he’s never lied or told a deliberate untruth on the record.

“The script is the best script we’ve had. The second movie, we were in the middle of a writers’ strike, writing on the go. The first movie, we had the discovery, and this movie really is the fruition of the rhythm we’ve created out of five years working together. I’m super proud of this movie,” the actor goes on to say.

In other words, the previous two films may have been disappointing but they have also been lessons well learned by everyone involved in the making of them.

The fact that this is also the last installment (at least for Shia) also guarantees it won’t be bad. As far as he’s concerned, he’s giving it all his best so that must mean something.

“There’s no more for me, at least. I’m never going to do it again. This is the last one. This is the best movie we’ve made, period, and that’s a unanimous decision by everybody. The sizzle reel that [Bay] has been showing everybody on set, it’s so outrageous. I’m very, very, very, very proud of it,” LaBeouf says.

Clearly, the actor is very proud of how “Transformers 3” is turning out, just in case fans had any more doubts.

“I’ve seen about 10 minutes of it – just the stuff we shot in Chicago – and it’s pretty awesome. It’s all in Michael Bay’s head, so you never know what the film’s going to turn out like, but judging by the script and what we’ve shot, it’s, I think, every bit as good, if not better than, the first two,” Shia further says.

“Transformers 3” is out in US theaters on July 1, 2011. We’ll see then if Shia exaggerated anything with the statements above.
