That might explain some of the erratic behavior the actor has been displaying

Yesterday it was reported that actor Shia LaBeouf was looking to get some help with his behavior issues that had landed him in trouble with the police yet again last week, and that he was checking himself into rehab. Today, we find out that the information is incorrect, but that Shia is looking for some help in the form of alcohol treatment addiction.

Radar has spoken with his representative, who has confirmed that Shia was voluntarily seeking professional help in the battle with his alcohol addiction, but denied the actor checked himself into rehab. This move was triggered by the fact that last week LaBeouf was arrested in New Work City for criminal trespass, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

“Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction,” the representative tells the press and points out that the troubled actor “understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.”

Last Thursday, Shia was taken away by police after breaking up a Broadway performance of “Cabaret” and just a few hours previously, he was spotted around town, trying to pick a fight with a homeless man.

Some of you might still remember his past stunts from earlier this year, like the one he pulled at the Berlin Film Festival, when he showed up with a paper bag over his head on which he had written “I am not famous anymore.”

The actor expressed his wish to leave the public life several times before in the past, but he has yet to keep to his promise.

When news that he was checking into rehab made its way online, some speculated that it was just a preemptive move for when he would have to appear before a judge. Seeking professional help would be viewed by the judge as a sign that he was actively looking to straighten himself out and would probably make him go easier on the actor.

Currently, there is no way to tell if Shia's move to get help is genuine or just a stunt to keep him out of jail, but his first court date is on July 24, giving him some time to sort some of his issues out.

Yesterday, the “Transformers” star was photographed with a copy of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Blue Book in his hand, indicating that he had begun the process of overcoming his alcohol addiction.
