The actor is catching a lot of flak since he came forward

Shia LaBeouf has been anything but ordinary in the last year. The actor has been accused of plagiarism in his directorial debut, something he later revealed was an intricate art campaign to prove to the world that creativity is dead. He set up an #IAMSORRY live art performance show back in spring and now he came forward to reveal that a woman raped him during that time.

As you can imagine, rape is a very sensitive issue and since there have been several scandals in the media lately, the public's tolerance for jokes when it comes to this subject is very low. Which would explain why Shia immediately began catching flak for his confession that he was raped.

The actor came forward to say that he was raped months ago, stirred up a storm

The actor said in an interview with Dazed Digital last week that during his five-day sit-in show, a woman came in, took off his clothes and raped him, all while his girlfriend Mia Goth was sitting in line outside, oblivious to what was going on inside.

Two people who were directly involved with the #IAMSORRY project, British artist Luke Turner and Finnish artist Nastja Säde Rönkkö, took to Twitter to clarify some of Shia's allegations. Both of them posted three identical tweets in which they gave some information on the incident.

They say that their art show did not specify that visitors could do whatever they wanted to Shia during his performance and that some people abused that possibility. The two don't confirm Shia's version that he was indeed raped by a woman, but they do mention one incident in which a woman did something she wasn't supposed to, and as soon as they caught on, they put a stop to it and made sure the woman left.

Among those who spoke against Shia LaBeouf were people like famous journalist Piers Morgan who went on Twitter to call the actor “pathetic” and saying that his confession was a slap in the face of real rape victims.

Piers Morgan wonders why the woman was allowed to leave

Piers read Shia's collaborators' tweets and was still doubtful that this entire rape scandal wasn't just made up. His question immediately after the tweets were posted was why the alleged woman rapist was allowed to leave after she took advantage of Shia.

Luke Turner took it upon himself to further clarify matters. He explained that their first concern was Shia and the other people in the gallery, rather than the mysterious woman and that she didn't actually walk out so much as run out of the building. He concluded his explanation with a dry “beyond that, it's not my place to comment.”
