Singer and songwriter Sheryl Crow has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The shock announcement comes from the 50-year-old star herself, though she insists fans have nothing to worry because she'll be fine.

Speaking with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sheryl says she's been experiencing some memory loss as of late, so she went to a doctor to see what was wrong with her, The Huffington Post informs.

She found out that she had a brain tumor which was causing her memory loss.

“I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor,” the star says.

She doesn't mention whether she's received treatment yet or whether she will do so in the future, but she wants the world to know that there is nothing to worry about.

The tumor is benign, so she will be ok.

“It's benign, so I don't have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit,” Sheryl admits.

The revelation comes after she got a lot of media attention – not necessarily the positive kind – after forgetting the lyrics to one of her hit songs, “Soak Up the Sun.”

Video of the whole thing is below.

Sheryl was performing in Florida one month ago, when she repeatedly forgot the words to the song. She told fans she was old and that's why her memory was failing her.

“I'm 50 what can I say! My brain has gone to [expletive]!” she joked.

However, fans must already know that Sheryl also battled breast cancer 6 years ago so she's what one might describe as a tough cookie.

TMZ says it caught up with the star at LAX after the shocking announcement and she looked “great.”

It also mentions that “the tumor is what's called a meningioma – a growth that develops from the protective linings of the brain and spinal cord. According to Sheryl's rep, it's a very common condition.”
