Surprisingly, the green trend aiming to decrease the carbon footprint is visible even in the film industry. Warner Bros makes no exception, since it counts as one of the most eco-conscious companies.

It spared no efforts to come up with effective measures of lowering CO2 emissions, while recycling waste and keeping landfills clean, Huffington Post informs.

Co-producer Lauren Meek has recently explained that "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" had to follow a series of ambitious sustainable goals. Apparently, putting theory into practice was easy, since all the crew members were encouraged to recycle, helping reduce the impact of both food and construction set waste.

Warner Brod is no stranger to such eco-conscious targets, since it has launched and supported Green Initiative. It seems that members of the crew have welcomed this initiative, most of them already recycling at home and manifesting their respect for the environment.

The film should not be seen only as a potential gold mine when it comes to the financial aspects, it should also count as an effective way of keeping greenhouse gas emissions under control and increasing the level of awareness of the actors involved in this project.

The environmental benefits are already noticeable, according to Meek, since the project managed to keep 680 tons of general waste far away from landfills, displaying a 93% diversion rate. 10 tons of food waste will be composted, proving that modern filmmaking is far from being a messy business.

Their operations have prevented 2,500 tons of C02 from reaching the atmosphere. All in all, digitally-made movies provide an efficient way of keeping both the carbon footprint and the financial costs under control. Digital visual effects managed to save more than a few dollars on trips to a few European countries.

All in all recycling operations have been considered fun and entertaining by crew members, who hope their example will influence the attitude of Sherlock Holmes fans worldwide.
