Alan Shearer`s carrier in football might come to an end this season. He had to get off the field in the 71st minute of the Newcastle win against Sunderland, due to a knee injury. On Thursday, the English striker will have his knee scan, so the doctors could determine if his carrier is over or not.

Shearer, an emblematic player of the Newcastle United, said that he would have retired by the end of the season anyway. Three games before the finish line, he now sees himself
unable to help his team.

"It does not look good. They think there might be a tear in the medial ligament and if that is the case then that will be it for me I am afraid. I will be bitterly disappointed if it is the end because there are three huge games left for us", said Shearer. With 3 more games to go, Newcastle is now on 7th in the English Premiership, having a very good chance of qualifying for Europe.

The club's owner, Glen Roeder, still hopes for Alan`s recovery. Still, he said that if that's the way, Shearer will have to retire and they would have to honor him with a good farewell: "I will remain positive there is a chance we will still get him back on the pitch, maybe in the very last game of the season. If we don't, I suppose his memory of scoring then what would be his last goal would be a very, very happy one for different reasons".

Shearer scored 206 goals in 404 games since he's been with Newcastle in 1996, coming from Blackburn for 15 million pounds. His total in the English Premiership comes to 379 goals in 733 appearances. He is also one of the most prolific strikers of England's national team, scoring 30 goals in 63 matches.
