Leading mobile discovery company Shazam has just announced the acquisition of synchronized lyric technology from Tunezee, a Silicon Valley company, and the launch of a new feature for its mobile phone users, Shazam LyricPlay.

The new feature enables the company to provide its customers with lyrics that are being synchronized in real-time with the music that users are listening to on their mobile phones.

“Shazam leads the marketplace for mobile discovery and we constantly strive to develop even greater consumer experiences,” Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, announced.

“We are committed to make the necessary investments to build or acquire innovative technology in order to enhance these experiences as we continue to innovate and enhance the world’s leading mobile discovery service.”

Shazam explains that the new feature was designed so as to sync lyrics with a music source. The company added its core technology into the mix, and also provided a layer of animation and visualization so that users would receive a great experience.

Shazam also came up with a database of lyrics which already sports a number of more than 25,000 of the most popular Shazam’d songs.

“We believe Shazam LyricPlay is a world’s first and significantly enhances the magical experience Shazamers love,” Fisher concludes.

Through Shazam LyricPlay, users receive a great experience on their mobile devices, being able not only to discover a new song title, or the artist playing the track, but also to access other great information, and see the lyrics with eye-catching visual themes synced with the music.

The new feature was made available for free as part of Shazam Encore and (SHAZAM) RED Apps for iPhone and iPod touch. It is accessible to all users in the US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

The new feature adds to the recently released ‘Shazam Friends’ for iOS and Android, a real-time feed of songs tagged by Facebook friends, enabling faster and easier discovery and sharing of music.
