Snapdragon 810 devices are becoming more common

We have seen plenty of high-end smartphones launch with a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, but the same can’t be said about tablets. Until now, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet was the only one to take advantage of this chip architecture, but things have changed this week, when Sharp debuted a slate that is powered by the same silicone standard.

Back at MWC 2015, Sony rolled out a very interesting new device, the Xperia Z4 Tablet, which offers a 10.1-inch display with 2K resolution (300ppi). Incidentally, this slate was also the first to make a debut on the market with Snapdragon 810 on board.

Fast forward a few months, we’re seeing the second tablet taking advantage of Qualcomm’s controversial octa-core platform arrive into the wild.

Meet the Sharp Aquos Pad SH-05G, a tablet with a 7-inch form factor. As we’ve grown accustomed to expect from Sharp, the slate bundles an IGZO panel that boasts a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (as seen at Tablet News).

Sharp's new tablet is small and powerful

In terms of visuals, Sharp has managed to reduce the bezels on the tablet to the minimum, thus abiding by the standard of bezeless devices we’ve come to see arrive from Asia as of late.

The tablet measures 174 x 105 x 8.0 mm / 6.8 x 4.1 x 0.31 inches and tips the scale at only 210 g / 0.46 lbs. It’s probably one of the most compact 7-inch Android tablets you can expect to find around.

The Snapdragon 810 on the inside will be working in concert with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot).

On the imaging front, things are pretty bland, with the Sharp Aquos Pad SH-05G offering the services of an average 8MP primary camera and 2.1MP secondary one. The tablet draws life from a 3,900 mAh battery and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The device seems like a pretty worthy tablet, but the thing is customers won’t probably see it in stores outside Japan’s borders.

The Sharp Aquos Pad will be offered in the country by local carrier Docomo, but the company is yet to announce anything related to pricing. It shouldn't come too cheap, though.
