Netbook designs can only differ so much, as we've learned over the recent months. However, for those who haven't yet lost hope, there's a new netbook that might just enable you to stand out from the crowd. This is the case of the Mebius PC-NJ70A from Sharp, a system that manages to impress thanks to its features, rather than its name. According to available details, this 10-inch netbook is the only PC in its category to provide users with a built-in LCD trackpad.

The integrated LCD trackpad, located in the palm rest of the netbook, is by far the most interesting feature on the new product from Sharp. It provides users with a resolution of 854 by 480 pixels and allows them to interact with the system's features, roughly in the same manner as a traditional trackpad. In addition, the netbook's second LCD is designed to detect the level of light surrounding the PC.

Aside from the unique and interesting LCD integrated in the palm rest of Mebius PC-NJ70A, its features are similar to almost every other netbook on the market. The system is powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor, running at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM memory, a 160GB HDD and a 10.1-inch (1024x600) LCD screen. Additional features include the usual three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a multicard reader. Unfortunately, the details regarding the pricing and availability of the new Mebius netbook haven't been made available. However, according to the fellows over at engadget, the system will be launched with a street price tag of about US$817.

Despite the high price tag of the Mebius and its standard technical specifications, the netbook appears to deliver a much-awaited improvement over competitive products on the market. Taking in consideration Sharp's expertise in the LCD segment, users could also expect a higher quality for the integrated LCD screen.
