You'd think that a 45-inch or 50-inch TV was big, and that 60-70-inch ones were huge, but that way of thinking may not survive the news of what Sharp has planned for the world.

Sharp has a history of big panels, but the ones it will send to the US next year (2012) are going to leave pretty much all of them in the dust.

After all, LCD TVs don't easily attain a screen size of 90 inches, but there they are.

Sharp will send its 90-inch models to the US in 2012, where it already has 80-inch products on sale.

Speaking of 80-inch beasts, Sharp's CEO reportedly said that it is the company's intention to expand their availability to China and Japan next year (it already has 70-inch TVs there).

The large creatures will be sold under the AQUOS branding.

I own the 80", which is by far and away the best combination of price and performance on the market. No one makes a television that can compete with this model, except perhaps a $30,000 (and up) Panasonic Plasma. And, because of the price, it means that no one competes with it.

If Sharp puts the 90" at a well-below $10,000 price point, then it will be a huge hit. Right now, Sharp has no competition, and this will just seal the deal further.
