Sharp DM002SH

After announcing its new Windows Mobile smartphone (named Willcom 03) for Japan, Sharp has also unveiled today a "less serious" mobile device, the DM002SH, which comes as a Disney phone.

Also released in Japan, this new Sharp Disney (we can call it this, although it's not its official name) is the second Japanese phone to be branded with the famous name: the first device is Sharp DM001SH, which came with Mickey Mouse content and had Mickey's ears embedded in its case as well as in its navigation pad.

As much as the Google translation from Japanese to English allows us, we can tell that the new DM002SH is Cinderella themed and that it also comes with special access to a mobile Disney portal.

Unlike the other Sharp handset presented today (which is a candybar with a full QWERTY keyboard), the Disney Sharp comes in a clamshell form factor. It measures 101.5 x 49 x 16.3 millimeters (when closed), it weighs 111 grams and has a fancy diamond-like pattern on its front cover.

Although I said above that the phone is "less serious", it actually has quite nice features that make it a mid-end device. Its list of specs include a 2.6 inch internal display with a WQVGA resolution (400 x 240 pixels) and 260K colors, an external and tiny 60 x 32 pixels OLED screen, a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, 3G connectivity for a quick Web browsing and high data transfer speeds (up to 3.6 Mbps), Music player, mobile TV capabilities (as all the new Japanese handsets), Bluetooth 2.0, IrDA, 50MB of internal memory and microSD card slot.

Sharp DM002SH will be commercially available starting in June, via Softbank, the third largest mobile operator in Japan. Its price is not known yet, but it will probably not be too affordable.
