Sony recently introduced the Sony Z Xperia Ultra mini-tablet edition in Japan and it’s apparently not the only company that believes customers in this part of the world would appreciate a smartphone looking tablet.

Sharp has just introduced its Aquos Pad SHT22, a slate with extremely narrow margins, reminiscent of a handset (via Kddi). The device comes boasting a 7-inch IGZO display with a proficient 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution capable of displaying crisp and vivid images.

Under the hood, Sharp has slipped a 2.2GHz Snapdragon processor 800 combined with 2GB of RAM and backed up by 16GB of internal memory (expandable via microSD).

The photography department is going to wow you also, as Sharp has added a 13.1MP camera on the back that can take f/1.9 aperture photos to be taken even in dark environments.

The Aquos Pad bundles a 4,080 mAh battery and even if it doesn’t seem like much, the energy-efficient IGZO display will enable the tablet to run up to 12.5 hours.

Furthermore, the tablet amazes by being extremely light and portable, weighing just 263 g / 0.57 lbs. The Sharp Aquos Pad SHT22 will launch in Japan but price-range is not known yet.
