When it comes down to consumer electronics style is sometimes as important as features or even price, so Sharp went on to develop what has to be the slimmest Blu-ray unit that I happen to see, this new Aquos player coming with full 3D support as well as a stylish design.

At just 35mm thick this is truly a impressive Blu-ray player, one that should fit particularly well with those ultra-slim LED TVs that have the habit of popping around more and more often.

And since this comes with a detachable base as well, the BD-HP90 can even be placed in an vertical position thus taking up less space while looking particularly smart.

And if you wonder how has Sharp managed to get its Blu-ray player to be this small, then you should know the secret lays in that slot-in optical unit, that allowed its designers to save up enough space to make this the thinnest 3D Blu-ray unit ever built (according to Sharp at least).

Of course that going with such a Blu-ray drive has its downsides since slot-in optical drives are usually more picky about the type of discs they can playback (smaller sized discs are a well known problem), dust build-up inside the unit being also a cause for concern.

However, you do have to know this are only minor problems that won't usually come up in day to day use.

Moving on past the design aspect of things, the Aqous BD-HP90 is pretty much your standard 3D Blu-ray player, coming with HDMI connectivity as well as a front panel USB port that enables its users to playback MP3 and JPEG files, details about other supported formats being pretty scarce.

Unfortunately, all this thinness does come with a price, the Aqous BD-HP90 selling for an impressive $495 when it will become available in Japan on November 20. (via CrunchGear)
