From the company's SB series

You might say that there's no such thing as a cheap LCD TV coming from one of the best-known names in the industry, and you'd be perfectly right. However, even big players do roll out, from time to time, various models targeting especially the people on a budget, and that's also the case with Sharp, which has just announced that it's expanding the SB family with three new models, the LC-52SB55U, LC-46SB54U and LC-42SB45U.

The LCDs are described by Sharp as "entry-level" and target, according to Bruce Tripido, marketing VP Entertainment Products Division, Sharp, "a wider audience, providing an affordable, yet high-quality option for consumers". Starting at $2,299.99 and down to $1,399.99 (for the LC-42SB45U), the new TVs are not even that expensive, but they're not exactly significantly cheaper than some of the more advanced products from Sharp either.

But are they worth that much? As you've probably guessed by simply looking at their names, the SB series is available in 52- 46-, and 42-inch screen size class units, all of which feature Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution) and are cased in a glossy piano-black bezel. Additionally, the devices feature Sharp's Spectral Contrast Engine for deep blacks and crisp images, as well as a rather OK pixel response time of 6ms (6.5ms on the LC-42SB45U).

As far as connectivity goes, these sets come fully equipped with built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners and various other inputs, including four HDMI connectors on the LC-52SB55U, two on the LC-46SB54U and three on the LC-42SB45U, as well as two HD component terminals on each. Much in the same way as most other similar products available on the market, all models feature a dedicated PC input so that the TV can also act as a PC monitor.

As you can see, the features and specs provided by these three models are pretty interesting and they might represent a very good choice for those people who want to go HD without blowing too much money in the process, especially since their price tags are bound to get even lower in the future.
