What the purpose of all these branded phones is is beyond my understanding. Nonetheless, this is not the first, and definitely not the last phone of this type, the best example being the Sirocco and its Lamborghini and Aston Martin special editions.

Therefore, you can now find the Sharp 770SH all dressed up in the silver, black and red colors of McLaren Mercedes. This phone is mainly the result of Vodafone's sponsorship of McLaren Mercedes' Fernando Alonso and - according to Vodafone - the people interested in this phone can already get their hands on one of these special edition phones.

While a slight color or look change won't really guarantee any success, the Sharp 770SH is a pretty decent handset, featuring a 262k color screen with a QVGA resolution, video and MP3 playing capabilities, 3G support, a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth for connectivity.

Also, if you stop to think about how small a 5MB internal memory is for a mobile phone with MP3 support, it will make perfect sense why this phone also comes with a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion. Taking into account all the features the phone comes with, it is clear that the 770SH doesn't target very advanced users, but it's a nice phone for your average user with fewer demands.

The phone is said to last for 220 minutes of talk time or 340 hours on stand-by, weighs around 110 grams, so it's not very inconvenient and measures 101 x 49,9 x 17,1. Although I'm not really sure what type of user the special edition of this phone targets, people who are interested can get a silver, black and red Sharp 770SH McLaren edition for 60 euros ($90) with a contract.
