Anyone who is interested in the Sharp 770SH, but would rather use a candybar phone instead of a clamshell, has the perfect alternative. Also including 3G capabilities, the 550SH comes with pretty much the same features as the 770SH, the only difference - apart from the form factor - being the screen, which in the case of the 550SH is 1.9 inches, therefore smaller.

The phone features a 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom that can be used for taking snapshots as well as recording videos, the 1.9 inch 256k color LCD display with a 240 x 320 (QVGA) resolution mentioned before, as well as Bluetooth and USB for connectivity.

It comes with a media player that supports MP3, AAC, AAC+ and AAC+e file types. The phone supports 40-chord polyphonic ringtones, but MP3 and AAC files can be set as ringtones as well. Although the Sharp 550SH comes with a 20MB internal memory, which isn't a lot of space to store music on, the memory can be expanded through the MicroSD card slot the phone includes.

Other more basic features include Wap browser, E-mail client and Java games as well as the usual Calendar, Calculator or Alarm Clock. The phone measures 48 x 111 x 18.8 mm, weighs 96 grams and it's not as stylish and shiny as other mobile phones released on the market nowadays, but overall, it seems to be a compact and reliable phone.

It's pretty lightweight as well, so it should not inconvenience the user while carried around. Currently available in Europe, the 550SH, as well as its brother, the 770SH will soon become available to Cingular and T-Mobile customers.
