Although LCDs are not typically associated with very wide viewing surfaces (this particular "area of expertise" belongs mainly to plasma displays), there are some models out there that really take the cake as far as their diagonal size is concerned. And one of these models is the LB-1085 presented by the people from Sharp, a 108-inch LCD TV announced last year, but which has managed to find its way to the shelves only now, as our Japanese colleagues from Impress inform us.

As you can well imagine, this kind of a monster-display is not exactly very light, so it's not likely that you'll be able to carry it around your home very easily. Measuring 2572 x 202 x 1550mm and weighing a staggering 195 kilos, this uber-display will really require a very large room to be installed in, not to mention a very solid floor.

Besides the very impressive dimensions, the device from Sharp provides some pretty advanced display-related features as well. Thus, it delivers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, up to 760 million colors, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, 176-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, as well as quite an OK response time (given its huge size), namely somewhere around 6 ms.

The connectivity options are also pretty good, since we're dealing with 3 HDMI connectors, 1 DVI interface, 2 RCAs, 1 BNC, 1 S-Video, Component and Composite Video, analog and digital audio, etc. Additionally, the LCD TV sports 2 channels, 15-W speakers (with built-in amplifiers), as well as an analog audio output. And, as you might imagine, this is one big "energy-hog", as it requires no less than 1,130 W during normal operation.

Now, for the last (and best) part, the price. The LB-1085 LCD display from Sharp retails for around 101,000 US dollars, which is indeed a pretty steep price point, this probably being the reason why the device is only built-to-order. Guess you'll have to start saving now in order to get it... well, in a very-very long time.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
