Sharon Stone was at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway and managed to stir quite a controversy by her simple presence, or lack of it. After the gala ended, the Royal family and all the other guests were invited at a dinner and everybody expected her to comply with the unwritten tradition that rule in the city.
Customs say that, if a member of the Royal family attends such an event, all guests must come before them and be seated before they enter. Probably not aware of this, Sharon reached 15 minutes later than the King, making people in the venue wonder at the easiness with which she stepped into the room, as if she was the royalty they all expected.
On the other hand, the arrival of the King was not even expected, as invites had been sent to him in previous years, too, and he did not attend. But, this time, he was asked by the Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, who also asked Spain's Queen Sophia to be his guest, so he took him up on it.
Several national newspapers branded the actress' behavior a 'violation' of a long-established tradition, while others stated that the King easily dismissed the blunder, without taking too much notice of it. However, the general feel is that she could have at least apologized, even if she didn't know what was expected of her.
'When the king is invited to such an event, guests need to have a very good reason for arriving after he does. I'm sure that if she didn't have a good reason, she'll be sorry about it.', one major newspaper wrote about the behavior during the gala of the 'Basic Instinct' star.
