Supports SATA HDDs and SSDs

USB 3.0 has become quite popular over the past few months. This is obvious from the fact that many new laptops, motherboards or computer cases feature compatibility with this new standard, even though neither Intel nor AMD actually offer native chipset support for it. On the other hand, not all of the recently unleashed computers provide this functionality. As such, devices that act as bridges or substitutes for the actual built-in feature can come in handy quite often.

Sharkoon knows well the value of such auxiliary hardware, as is evident from its HDD docks and even the QuickStore USB 3.0 HDD enclosure that came out last month. As such, it is hardly surprising to hear that the company is once again tackling this market segment in much the same fashion.

The newest product that the hardware maker brought out goes by the name of Rapid-Case and, like the aforementioned QuickStore Portable, has full support for the SuperSpeed connection. This means that the theoretical maximum transfer rates are of 5Gbps.

All hard drives and solid state drives configured with a SATA interface will be able to benefit from this. Also, backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 ports is, of course, present. This ensures a universal compatibility with all types of computers.

The Rapid-Case is constructed out of solid aluminum and features a sleek, black design. It measures 205 (L) x 115 (W) x 35 (H) mm, weighs 460 grams when empty and has a blue illuminating power switch. Additionally, it is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit. Sharkoon also provides a stand that allows the newcomer to stand upright.

The Sharkoon Rapid-Case USB 3.0 HDD for SATA HDDs and SSDs is already available, packaged with all the necessary USB 3.0 cable, AC adapter, screwdriver, non-slip rubber knobs and screws. It's priced at 29.90 EUR.
