The Marine Conservation Science Institute has recently launched an eco-friendly app, suggestively entitled Expedition White Shark, available for the iPhone and iPad. It can be used to track Great White Sharks in their natural habitat, in real-time.

The app that sells for $3.99 (€3.12) on iTunes was introduced in an effort to raise money for scientific research while seeking to raise the people's level of awareness regarding the existence of this species, listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as vulnerable, through a game.

Users who are willing to pay this price will be able to witness the migration of a dozen sharks the institute is monitoring, while using their smartphones or tablets.

This is possible due to a tracking device on the sharks and a satellite connection. Since the information is not 100% accurate, its developers are not concerned about hunters using the app in their favor, to kill these creatures.

Their initiative seeking to raise funds for research is welcomed especially since 73 million sharks are hunted annually and used in the food industry to obtain pricy delicacies.
