The incident occurred on Newfoundland's northeastern coast

Some time ago, three fishermen in Alaska rescued a beached killer whale. That was one really cool animal rescue story, but by no means a match to the news that a couple of folks in Newfoundland have recently saved the life of a shark that nearly choked to death on a moose.

Derrick Chaulk says that, as he was driving along Newfoundland's northeastern coast, he spotted an animal lying on the beach. At first, he assumed it was a whale.

It was only upon closer investigation that he figured out the animal in distress was actually a shark. Apparently, the animal beached itself after a moose chunk had gotten stuck in its mouth.

Together with Jeremy Ball, Derrick pulled the ginormous piece of meat from between the shark's jaws. In about half an hour, the animal showed signs of feeling better, and the men guided it back to the water.

The shark did not think twice about swimming away as soon as possible. Mother Nature Network says that, according to ecologist Ian Hamilton, the shark tried to feast on a moose that had somehow drowned, and that it unfortunately bit off more than it could chew.

So no worries, “sharknadoes” are still pure fiction.
