When it comes to taking pictures of sharks, most people prefer to keep their distance, and nobody can really blame them for choosing to do so.

However, Australian daredevil Sam Cahir recently decided to let go of almost all sense of self-preservation, get in the water with a shortfin Mako shark and go about his business of taking stunning wildlife photographs.

Truth be told, his efforts more than paid off, seeing how this particular close-up of the shark's most inner secrets became a viral sensation.

“The Mako made some menacing passes. On a number of occasions she almost swallowed the camera whole, allowing me to shoot straight down her maw,” Sam Cahir said while recollecting this experience.

Furthermore, “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I feel humbled to have witnessed such a display of nature's quirkiness.”
